I know at least one other member (engine) is a big Reggae music fan so for us and any other fans out there here is a thread to discuss and exchange examples of this great music. Here's one track each from the late greats Dennis Brown & Gregory Isaacs to get us started from the excellent Judge Not LP thay recorded together backed by Sly & Robbie released in 1984 on Greensleeves in the UK. I bought this at 15 and have been playing it ever since.

Apart from Bob Marley this was my earliest memory of hearing reggae music via Top of The Pops of course and even then at 8 or 9 it had an effect. I rvividly remember seeing Bob singing Three Little Birds on ToTP and I just loved it and from then on via UB40 until my best mate's brother went away to Uni and we discovered his record collection. Gregory Isaacs - The Best of Gregory Isaacs And a Virgin Records compilation The Front Line which I still own and doesn't have a bad record on it. It opened up with this. And also had this track. A great period for Reggae Music 1975 - 1985.

Way back in the early seventies, my mate ran the biggest mobile disco in West London and hired various large venues to put his show on. He'd get a guest band in as support and featured people like Desmond Dekker, The Pioneers, Laurel Aitkin and even Millie amongst others. Well known soul bands appeared a good few times too.

Wow some real superstars of the genre there especially at that time. Lucky barsteward!

Dreads don't get any more natural than mine. I really didn't picture you with dreads I don't know why? but I'm sure they look great . Thanks. They certainly get peoples attention! I've thought about printing up some cards to give out to people in pubs etc when I get the usual "Er'e can I ask you a question mate?" 'cos I can predict everything I'm about to be asked! "About 30 odd years but had dreads before that and after cutting them off I re-grew them", "Yes they're real", "yes really real it's all my own hair", "yes I wash it", "what you mean what with? Shampoo of course!", "no I don't put bee's wax in it", "no they don't smell" Then about 2 thirds of them ask if they can touch them! I've even been close to violence over them when drunks have decided either they're not real or I must use bee's wax and that I'm taking them for an idiot and lying to them!

I suppose it's just fashion. Fair do's. 30 years ago the Black kids where I lived would have run you out of town. "Dreads is Rasta , mon. Nah likkle white bway ". Saying that we were over there 3 years ago and the kids didn't know any reggae apart from Bob Marley , which was playing in every shop. Three little birds on loop.

Strangely enough the Dreads on Atlantic Rd, Brixton used to give me top respect.
