Music rental is cool. My preference is now for a rolling wave of music exploration. I'm usually no longer interested in stuff I listened to a few months back. And if I do want to revisit, it's almost always still there.
So much new music to explore, rental is great for this. I'd need an ever growing warehouse to store the damn CDs.

Yeah, that's certainly a huge plus factor. Maybe I'll revisit it at some stage. Having said that my music preference is probably too weird for much of my stuff to be on there . . . a lot is "vinyl only" (becasue 'some' artists and labels think thats super cool ).

Tell more about music rental, my only experience is borrowing cds and vinyl from the local library You pay Qobuz or Spotify or Tidal or Amazon etc £10 - £20 a month to access their music streaming services. The point seems to be, I think, that you don't own the music media. And this seems to bother some folks. Personally I think it's wonderful and allows immediate access to a whole world of music. This doesn't seem to be advantageous to some folks. We're all different, eh!

Swopped over my Quad's for Tuolihao's last night, now listening and they're sounding great, anyone want any Quad 57's at a good price?

I've just replaced the Phillips 6189's for a new pair of Psvane 12AU7-T's. Didn't expect the improvement I'm getting, I knew the 6189's gave a lower output, so obviously I don't have to turn the volume knob quite so much, but clarity has certainly been upped and yet there is still a nice warmth to the sound. I may bring back a pair of GE 6189's which are in my RFTLYS in Cambodia.

Hi Dave,
nice to see someone else still on a valve rolling journey!
Just my advice but ultimately the 12AU7 is quite a limited valve, both in terms of dynamics and clarity. If your transformer will allow (and I'm 99% sure it does) try some 12BH7's in there or perhaps some E80cc's.
In my experience both of these valves leave any 12AU7 a long way behind. (Especially new production ones). I'm certainly not saying they can't sound good, sometimes a 'lesser' valve just fits better within a given circuit but in about 4-5 instances over the last year or so with preamps and DAC's (Audio Note, Prima Luna, Deco Transfer), replacing the 12AU7's with the aforementioned has yielded a leap in performance.

These Psvane 12AU7-T's are great when listening to music at low levels, I do this early morning, but maybe a touch over powering if turned up. They remind me of the old loudness button. I did put in a bid on a pair of 12BH7's but lost out, I didn't want to pay much since I would still like to hear my GE6189's and I may also have another set of 12AU7's in Cambodia.
