These decks have brought great music to so many people who either couldn’t afford a more specialist deck, or wanted a more simple deck to site and use. It’s that simplicity that has been the cornerstone of their success. Usually well made and elegantly designed, they really took off, for me, when they ditched the lack”lustre” (see what I did there?) R200 arm in favour or the one piece cast RB series. There s a great article on Rega which I’d like to share too. www.rega.co.uk/rega-history.htmlRega were definitely one of the good guys of hifi and Roy Gandy will always be someone I personally admire,

RG could be a smug sanctimonious git on occasion and in the early days, the entire company reeked of it I remember. This dissipated a bit when he stepped back and let others do the day to day stuff more. I never found him one to have an open minded discussion with, as his pre-formed opinions ruled everything.
The products are well priced, after care service and parts availability is exemplary in the UK at least, but quality control needs a good dealer sometimes and not all of them are good these days. Still a good range IMO but again in my opinion, avoid the now terribly dated Bias, Elys and Exact cartridges - they're horrible and in dire need of a revamp!

Nobody seems to have good word for the carts and I have to agree with them. Had a few and all were awful. Sad that such great decks get lumbered with crap carts.

great deck. how much a new one cost nowadays £399 for a 2 and £579 for a 3 but they are better than ever today. The 1 is £249 but I don’t know how good it is. It’s immediate predecessor was cack IMO. Hopefully the new Planar 1 is better. To be fair, £249 nothing nowadays.

The AT91 based Carbon cartridge is safe as houses and measures better in most respects than the Bias and Elys. You'll need an online translator but see here for the Carbon and links to the other Rega cartridges - www.lowbeats.de/test-rega-carbon-mm-tonabnehmer-fuer-einsteiger/ The Planar 1 looks better than ever but should still be bought from a proper brand stockist imo, just in case. The planar 2 has fixed bias on the arm and from reading, this is too high for much under 2g tracking I gather and can't be adjusted. The 3 is rather better with better arm bearings and isn't scaled down as the cheaper two models are. Clear bright sound, but the dearer 6 with heavier platter and Neo supply is more 'musical' in my opinion and as most if not all Regas run slightly fast, the Neo allows proper speed adjustment. Whatever, I prefer these to any Pro-ject I think.
